day 4 – commitment

Welcome to day four of 28 days of Self-Love.

Check in with yourself here. How do you feel? 3 days down. You got this!

Let’s continue to cultivate the habit of Self-Love through creativity, breath, and gratitude.

commitment.  |kəˈmitmənt|
a pledge or undertaking.

“Courage is the commitment to begin without any guarantee of success.” —Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

  • Music Inspiration:  Yo-Yo Ma – Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007, Prelude

  • Day 4 Exercise: Set an Intention

Find a comfortable, quiet spot and grab your notebook.

First, you are going to set an intention for the duration of this course. What do you wish to achieve when these 28 days come to an end: More clarity; Creativity; Inner peace; Sense of calm. It can be anything! No right or wrong here.

Take that intention and create a single sentence affirmation in the present tense as if it has already happened and you believe it to be true. Then write it down in your notebook.

e.g. Creative energy surges through me and leads me to new and brilliant ideas.

Now, begin stream-of-consciousness writing for 10-20 mins in your notebook with your intention in mind. Not sure what that is? It’s merely any and every thought that comes to mind as you put pen to paper for the duration of your journaling segment. Sometimes it can be tricky to start if you don’t know where to begin, so I’ve found that simply writing the phrase “I don’t know what to write…” gets me going. Soon your mind will take over and thoughts will come and you will write ALL of these down. Stow you inner critics here. Goodness comes from this. Trust me.

  • Day 4 Create: Found Poetry

Today’s poem will come directly from your stream-of-consciousness drabble.

Look-over what you’ve written and circle or highlight words that stand out to you. Then take those words and create a poem. You can use any form you want here. Title or no title. This is one example of Found Poetry.

To read more about the various types of Found Poems the Unlost Journal is a wonderful resource. Also, consider submitting some found poetry to them for publication.

Here is my creative work as a result of today’s exercise:

creative expansion

My writing is growing, expanding, and thriving.

Stream: (You do not have to share this part publicly if you do not wish)
When one begins to go within and step forth on a journey of self-discovery one learns to dissect the programming of the innermost critic. You question, question everything and only by each question do you truly begin to reveal,  discover what no longer serves you or what never did. Only then can we begin culling out all the broken, toxic programming and completely let go of what no longer serves us. Words have always mattered to me. I’m not sure if it stems from my struggles with reading in early childhood or from somewhere entirely unknown. Either way, I’ve become a collector of words. Words I love the vibratory patterns of, ones I understand, ones I don’t, new ones. old ones, I collect them in pockets and use them for comfort when the frost settles deep inside my bones.

Found Poem:
within everything broken
words understand
and comfort my bones

Love and Ink,

I invite you to share your poems in the comment section below or link to a blog or personal website. Read and comment on others. Introduce yourselves. Get involved. I’m excited to see what all you lovely souls have created.

Feel focused. You are thriving with the creativity you’ve cultivated today! See you back here tomorrow with another day of Self-Love.

    1. Thank you so much! I have honestly tried to incorporate life into this challenge; these are many of the tools I discovered that helped me during very difficult times. I only hope to pass on any tidbits that might make things a bit easier for someone else on similar journeys, and possibly reach others with new creativity for personal growth.

      Thank you again for participating!

  1. Ayten, I really like your image of time running away and you chasing butterflies. Did you pull these words from your journaling? So ephemeral

  3. Stream: I joined this #selflovechallenge blindly. I didn’t know what to expect. But since it is being hosted by Grace, I knew it would be awesome so here I am. I knew that it would have something to do with words because you know, Grace = Words but let me correct that. Grace + WORDS = BEAUTY AND the challenge had the word LOVE so if it’s all about love then I’m in. I also saw this as an opportunity to re-connect with Grace whom I have missed dearly. I am sure the results of this challenge will be a positive one. I would know more about myself and I would have explored DIFFERENT FACETS OF my CREATIVITY. Best of all it will be A JOURNEY SHARED WITH DEAR FRIENDS.

    Found Poetry:
    words, beauty and love
    different facets of creativity
a journey shared with dear friends
