Wistful and Worn

I wish I were just another pretty face

but men have rejected more than my mind

and my wistfulness comes in waves–

I have sad eyes and light behind them

that these men overlook. My face is plain

and my palms worn, and every dream

before even this one and the one before

offered on the discounted shelf;

an abundance of stock from leftover days

and my heart’s on the floor

leaking grey.
