Night in Poems

The Sleep of the Beloved by Paul Schneggenburger

Hallow graves
Hallow night
Night of crimson
Night of trust
Trust the prophet
Trust the mirror
Mirror my confusion
Mirror your betrayal
Betrayal of bent
Betrayal of broken
Broken dreams
Broken dance
Dance on a twisted limb
Dance on a weeping vine
Vine of memory
Vine of vein
Vein of truth
Vein of lies
Lies of languor
Lies of lily dust
Dust your death from my floor
Dust your heart from its grave
Grave days
Grave grace
Grace the shadows
Grace the eves
Eves of lonely
Eves of longing
Longing for an unknown known
Longing for an unseen sight
Sight of wolves
Sight of thieves
Thieves of a maiden muse
Thieves of her written word
Word of stone
Word of ink
Ink of indigo trees
Ink with a henna tint
Tint this backdrop
Tint this place
Place this cup
Place this face
Face the music
Face the silence
Silence your pain
Silence my poems
Poems beat
Poems with hearts
Hearts…
Beat…
