Cloud Formations

Cloud Formations
Nothing’s everything deep within the void
The numb hours rape the horrors of my mind
I’m dead inside, youth, innocence destroyed

Others have passed and trespassed, toyed and cloyed
Minutes float, dry land drowning, beacon blind
Nothing’s everything deep within the void

Breathless laughter, menageries enjoyed
I cradle my rotting skull, curved, flesh-lined
I’m dead inside, youth, innocence destroyed

A head case, a basket, a file for Freud
Whispers scream, off track, what you’ll never find
Nothing’s everything deep within the void

Smacked dumb, self-criticism my mouth employed
Acerbic disgust beneath my tongue, binds
I’m dead inside, youth, innocence destroyed

Little girl lost; heart sowed earth—overjoyed
But reality’s life, there’s no rewind
Nothing’s everything deep within the void
I’m dead inside, youth, innocence destroyed

  1. The repetition reinforces the ideas – disturbing as they are – very well – adding the heaviness to the evocative and well chosen words. There is a sublime beauty in this :)

  2. A Villanelle is a tricky form to employ. And you did a really spectacular job with it.
I’ve done a few. But I tend to stick to shorter forms or free verse.

Thanks for stopping by. I usually do title a piece after I write it. Sometimes the title just jumps out. Other times I’ve got to sit back and think…but I do try to do just that – make it entice, and fit. Thanks.

    1. I’m like you, Free Verse and brevity are my preference. But this was a challenge from a friend so I thought I’d give it a go. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment, Jules!

Words, love them! Have some? Leave them.
